We had a training lesson for peer reading with Mrs Lee this morning. She read a story to us about a snail and a whale. The snail left a message on a rock that he wanted to have some cool adventures. The whale saw the ad and replied with a giant sized YES. So onto the whale climbed the snail. They did have lots of adventures – the last being a life threatening adventure for the whale. He managed to beach himself. Mrs Lee didn’t like the pictures on that page of the book because there were lots of people on boats and jet skis that weren’t wearing life jackets. Those people were the reason the whale got all confused and got stranded. Maybe they were drawn without life jackets because they were like irresponsible people who don’t care about the well-being of whales as well as the well-being of their own lives.
The book reminds me of a joke I must tell the class. It involves a snail as well. I think I will use Mr Reinecke as one of the characters in the joke. I hope someone reads what I am writing so they can remind me to tell the joke. Just before lunch today would be a good time. Maybe I will reward the person that reminds me to tell the joke. I don’t mind if people read my writing. I guess the purpose of writing is that someone read it sometime.

Today at morning tea Mr Paterson gave us (the staff) a whole lot of yummy stuff to eat. I asked him what the occasion was and he said it was because today was the last day of Autumn. I also got a neat surprise. He had printed off a voucher with a picture on it and gave it to me. He made a bit of a show as he gave it. On the piece of paper was a picture of his holiday home. On the top of the paper were the words “This voucher entitles the bearer to….” He was gifting a weekend away to me and my family. Very nice. I had to laugh because he had printed an expiry date at the bottom of the voucher. He is trying to sell the bach. I joked that if he sold it before the expiry date I still expect the new owners to honour the voucher.
I am not sure when we will be able to make use of it. This weekend we have already booked up and each Sunday afternoon we have homegroup – I love homegroup and don’t want to miss that. Maybe we could go away on one of the weekends when I have a Friday off.
